No. 22, the “kid with the lid,” “The Jewish Jordan.” The basketball standout, Tamir Goodman, is now a member of the minor league Maryland Nighthawks after several seasons in Israel’s professional leagues. But there is nothing now compared to the days when everyone would pack the Talmudical Academy’s tiny gym to watch the redheaded wizard at work. And it was when we found out we could barely get into the other school’s gym to watch him that we knew we had something. He turned down the University of Maryland because he refused to play on Shabbat. More than anything else, this player, now a husband and father and IDF veteran, may have used the back-door play to win some games, but he never turned his back on his faith.  –– P.J.
